About Us
Alan Walker is the principal technician for Prestige Piano Service. His fascination with pianos began as a youngster when he disassembled his parents' ancient saloon-style upright to fix a couple of keys that weren't working. Using rubber bands to replace disintegrated bridle straps in the action, he got the keys working again, and it was back to practicing arpeggios! Crude but effective.
Later he studied piano with Thalia Davidson at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. While classical training certainly has value, it wasn't until he was introduced to the elaborately syncopated rhythms of ragtime and the works of Scott Joplin that his true love for the instrument was solidified. Recognizing early on that a career in musical performance might not be practical, he chose instead to channel his curiosity and an irresistible urge to tinker into a more behind-the-scenes vocation.
Having worked alongside and been mentored by some of the foremost experts in the industry, Alan is active in the Piano Technicians Guild, and currently serves as President of the Salt Lake City Chapter.
